Secondary (Revision) Rhinoplasty Expert

Dr. C. Spencer Cochran is an expert in secondary rhinoplasty. Frequently called revision rhinoplasty, this type of nasal surgery is performed when problems either persist or develop after previous rhinoplasty surgery.

Occasionally, the problems are slight and can be corrected easily. Usually, however, deformities are significant, making secondary rhinoplasty more difficult than primary rhinoplasty and requiring more expertise. It is therefore important to select a highly qualified surgeon who is experienced in secondary rhinoplasty when the revision of a previous nose job is required.

Exceptional Qualifications

Secondary rhinoplasty requires exceptional analytical and surgical skill. Only surgeons with extensive training and significant rhinoplasty experience can restore breathing function and improve less-than-desirable results from previous nose surgery. Dr. C. Spencer Cochran is one of only a handful of surgeons worldwide that focuses exclusively on rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty.

C. Spencer Cochran, MD is a highly respected rhinoplasty specialist and Founder of the Dallas Rhionplasty Center.  Having been in practice with Dr. Jack Gunter for almost a decade prior to Dr. Gunter’s retirement in June of 2014, Dr. Cochran was hand-selected to continue Dr. Gunter’s rhinoplasty legacy. He offers the most up-to-date and cutting-edge techniques in rhinoplasty and has pioneered many new rhinoplasty techniques.  His contributions to the field have significantly enhanced both primary and secondary rhinoplasty.

Our Goals for Secondary Rhinoplasty

Most patients at our Dallas, Texas office who are seeking secondary/revision rhinoplasty have a nose that looks operated and unnatural or does not function as it should. Our rhinoplasty surgeon’s goal is always to produce a nose that looks natural, functions properly, and harmonizes with the patient’s other facial features. To accomplish this, it is usually necessary to reconstruct and reshape the underlying framework of cartilage and bone using cartilage grafts obtained from either the ear or the rib.

In the skilled hands of our rhinoplasty surgeon, significant improvement can be achieved with secondary rhinoplasty. However, it is important to note that, due to the complexity of the procedure, a nose surgery revision can take two to three times as long as primary rhinoplasty. The extra time, combined with any grafting or other special techniques used during treatment, also make it significantly more expensive.

When assessing a patient’s candidacy for secondary rhinoplasty, Dr. Cochran will always listen to and consider the patient’s desires. However, as with any surgery, there are certain limits to what can be accomplished. If the surgeon feels that the patient’s goals are not achievable, he will address this during the consultation. Also, patients cannot be assessed for secondary rhinoplasty until at least one full year has passed since their last nasal surgery, as subtle changes may still be taking place up until this time.
