BOTOX Cosmetic at a Glance
- Benefits: BOTOX® Cosmetic temporarily relaxes the muscles responsible for expression lines, softening forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet for a smoother, more refreshed appearance without surgery.

What Is BOTOX Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of today’s most popular non-surgical aesthetic treatments. It works by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles responsible for forming wrinkles. Each time you frown, squint, or raise your eyebrows, these muscles fold the skin above them, and over the years those movements leave behind lines that remain visible even at rest. By reducing this muscle activity, BOTOX® Cosmetic softens expression lines and creates a smoother, more refreshed appearance without surgery.
Signature Skin also offers dermal fillers including JUVÉDERM® and Restylane®, and Laurie can help you decide which option best suits your goals.
What Areas Can BOTOX Cosmetic Treat?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is most commonly used to address:
- Forehead lines: Horizontal creases that form when raising the eyebrows
- Frown lines: The vertical “11” lines between the eyebrows
- Crow’s feet: Fine lines at the outer corners of the eyes
Experienced injectors may also use BOTOX® Cosmetic to treat other areas, such as “bunny lines” along the sides of the nose or a dimpled chin. Some of these uses are off-label, and Laurie can discuss whether they are appropriate for you.
Am I a Good Candidate for BOTOX Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is approved for aesthetic treatment in adults 18 to 65 years of age. Good candidates generally have moderate to severe expression lines, are in good overall health, are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and have realistic expectations about their results.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is designed for dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement. Lines caused mainly by volume loss often respond better to dermal fillers. Although injectables are temporary, they are a medical treatment with risks, which is why they should always be administered by a trained professional in a medically appropriate environment. How Are BOTOX® Injections Performed?
Treatment typically takes 20 minutes or less, so many patients schedule it during a lunch break. Your visit begins with a consultation where Laurie discusses your goals and maps out precise injection points based on your muscle activity. Known for her careful, conservative approach, Laurie aims for results that look fresh, never obvious.
The treatment areas are cleansed, a numbing agent can be applied if appropriate, and small amounts of BOTOX® Cosmetic are injected into the targeted muscles with a very fine needle. Any discomfort is usually minor and brief. Afterward, pressure and ice are applied to the treated areas. To save time, please complete your BOTOX® Cosmetic paperwork before your appointment.
What Is Recovery from BOTOX Cosmetic Like?
There is virtually no downtime, and most patients return to work and normal routines immediately. Makeup can be applied right away to conceal any signs of treatment. Mild swelling, tenderness, or redness may occur around the injection sites, but these effects typically resolve quickly on their own. For best results, avoid strenuous exercise and extended exposure to sun or heat for at least 24 hours after treatment.
What Results Can I Expect from BOTOX Cosmetic?
As the targeted muscles relax, lines gradually soften. Most patients notice improvement within the first several days, with full results apparent around two weeks after treatment. Our goal is never a “frozen” look. Instead, you should look like a smoother, more rested version of yourself while keeping natural facial expression.
BOTOX® Cosmetic can also be combined with fillers or Signature Skin treatments such as medical-grade peels and custom facials. Some facials should not be scheduled within one week of injectables, so our team will help you plan your services.
How Long Do BOTOX® Injection Results Last?
Results from BOTOX® Cosmetic have been shown to last up to four months in most cases. As muscle movement gradually returns, lines will slowly reappear, but results are easy to maintain with occasional touch-up treatments. Factors such as age, skin quality, and sun exposure can affect how long your results last, and Laurie can recommend a maintenance schedule tailored to you.
